YAY ME! Year 2008/2009 is over...

Multiple Exposure:
I didn't do this of myself but of my model Amanda. I was actually really really proud of it since it all blended really well and the lighting for most of the pictures were perfectly the same. The only thing I would do differently would be the lighting in 2 of the Amandas, they were the only ones that were different and made a whole thing a little off.

Circus Collage:
This one was not as great as my first photoshop piece. First of all, I didn't use the correct sizing and dimensions and it made my collage really really small. I think I did really well using the magic wand and it was pretty good.

Pattern:
I really really liked my pattern! It was a great way to start illustrator and I think I did a really good job at it. I think that the whole thing could have blended better though. Like when I tried to expand it and make it smaller, the areas where I copy and pasted were noticeable and I could have made it smoother.

Eccentrick Inspiration:
I loved my vectorized eccentrick inspiration! At first, I thought that this would be difficult but once I started it it was much easier than I thought and it didn't take too long either. I think that I brought Nick Jonas justice with my vectorized version of him, I really really liked it and I don't think that I would change anything.

Weccentrick Video:
I really liked our video. It was kinda really last minute but I think we pulled it off and did a really good job. I really liked working with my group and was sort of sad that it was the last project. I enjoyed filming and editing and if I were able to take another art course next year I would definitely take video or design.

The year has come to an end and I can honestly say that I'm going to miss Comm. x(

Eccentrick Art Show!

WOW, Mary Ward's Art Show, Eccentrick was absolutely amazing.

I enjoyed it much more than I did last year's art show because I was much more involved and I could relate to the art work and was able to do more the whole time. I liked how everyone in their different courses did a bunch of different things that had one common theme and eventually it came together, in unison. It was great to see what my classmates from other courses were doing too. I really liked the videos that the seniors made, it really showed their skills and my favourite video was definitely Developer. Stop. Death! (: It was a great showcase for their work and for the courses that we could take next year.

I think that the only problem I have with the art show was that it wasn't long enough and that it was dangerously late in the year. I think that although there are time restrictions and all, we should try to make the art show earlier as it conflicts with target dates and what not. Also, there should have been a stage for the performers too, like there was last year.

I basically spent at least 3 hours a day at the art show during the whole week performing, doing security, and loitering and I must say that it was not a waste of time at all (mostly). I really wish that it lasted longer but I guess that all good things must come to an end.

The world at it's finest... ish

"EVERYTHING'S AMAZING AND NOBODY'S HAPPY" The current generation alive today is truly the luckiest so far. We are able to do and see and experience far more than our grandparents or great grandparents ever did. Like Louis C.K. said, people in our generation can be ungrateful and just plain spoiled.
The quote that really hit me the most was "Give it a second! It's going to space!" Our technology has advanced so much that information is constantly being sent to and from space in a matter of milliseconds and even then, it's not fast enough for people! I am always hearing stories from my parents about when they were younger in the Philippines and how technology was scarce and much more primitive. One of the many examples would be the Atari that we played with when we were younger. The graphics were horrible and game play itself was strictly arcade.
Today, we can basically say that we would die without the technology we have today. Well, we probably could survive, but we would be extremely handicapped. x) By saying this we also need to look at how excessively we use all our cool gadgets. To the point where sometimes it's
just unnecessary.
I don't think I'm creative enough to think of an invention that has not been come up with yet. Since necessity is the mother of invention and most of what I need is already taken care of I can't think of a problem that I can solve through a new invention at the moment.
I think that overall, everyone, and I mean everyone, young and old, technologically challenged or not should just appreciate what we've got. From technology to the lives we live, we should be really really thankful as we live the best we can and make the most out of what our time can give us.

"Excuse me, I have to take this"

Cell phones have taken over the world and Rogers and Bell couldn't be happier.

Almost everyone has a cell phone, if they're out and about going places there needs to be a way for people to get in touch with them. So in many ways, cell phones are great and important. But with all the perks that come with possessing a cell phone, there are those who chose to abuse its awesomeness to the point where it gets on people nerves.

Here are my rules for proper phone etiquette:
1. Adjust your phone settings and volume according to your surroundings. For example, turn it off during school and if necessary, silent or vibrate. Same goes with when you’re at the movie theatres and adjust the brightness if you really need to text. Remember this at important places like school, movies, funerals, doctors, TTC, and church. You must turn your phone off a church.
2. When answering your phone in public places please, please, please! Keep your voice down! Other people don’t wanna hear about your fight with your mom or who ever and we don’t wanna know what’s going on between you and that girl. For all you know, her friends or even family could be around so watch what you say. Also, watch your language being sure not to offend anyone around you. The worst offence for me would be loud laughter.
3. Be Bluetooth Savvy. Ok, I don’t have anything bad against Bluetooth devices, just the people who abuse them. There are many stories of people mistaking those using Bluetooth devices in starting a conversation with them, only to find out that they were just speaking through a Bluetooth device and of course, becoming extremely embarrassed and trying to play it off. The lesson is to make sure that you make it visible when you speak into it or you’ll look really weird until it is noticed.
4. When you’re with a group of people, or even just one and your phone rings, remember to be polite and excuse yourself first. No one likes it when they’re having a conversation with someone and they suddenly just open their phone and start talking without warning, or even worse, when they randomly turn and leave. Having proper etiquette is very important.
5. Lastly, and most importantly, everyone must remember that phones are used for calling and even texting. People need to remember that no matter how cool or new your phone is and no matter how much it can do, it’s still a cellular phone. Used for communicating to others when you’re not at home. I hate when people are constantly on their phones playing games and texting. Learn to put that handy phone down and chat with the people you’re with.

The Campaign Trial - OBAMA

Someone must have gotten a well deserved raise for this.

During the American presidency campaign I followed quite a bit and was aware of Obama and McCain’s showdown. Although, I personally did not have a preference as to whom I wanted to be the next president of the US. This commercial was truly genius as it allowed viewers to compare and relate the previous hilarious commercial with the campaign one. This just shows how capable, Barack Obama os of connecting and reaching out to the younger generation of voters. He knows how to get people’s attention and now that he’s got it, what point is Obama trying to make? CHANGE, B!

Issues that are brought up in the commercial were war, poverty, health care, unemployment, bankruptcy, and of course, global warming. Obama could easily compare himself to George Bush and name all the things that he would do differently but it’s a person who keeps his word that should be given the responsibility of running a country.

“So what’s up, B” (Sees Obama on television) “Change, that’s what’s up, change.”

Now we just have to wait and see if Obama will follow through with his promises.

Colossal U Ad Campaign

If you really look into the Colossal U ads you see on the bus, it’s really a great ad! HAHA

At first glance you would think, “WOW, What? That can’t be right.” And it’s true, it isn’t right. These ‘Colossal U’ ads use sarcasm or reverse psychology to get people’s attention.
Before checking out the website I thought that this school would never succeed in their attempt to create ‘cookie cutter students’. As a student at Mary Ward who loves every kind of art with a passion and is all about individual dreams and aspirations in each person, I really doubted this Colossal U’s legitimacy.

Clearly, an academic institute cannot possibly guarantee that all their students will turn out exactly the same. Students and people in general are meant to be different and unique. Everyone is supposed to find their strengths and talents as they go through life and eventually those aspects are the characteristics that they will be remembered for.
It is a fact that schools kill creativity through the ‘life lessons/ messages’ that we subliminally perpetually receive about always needing to have the correct answer, or being correct. This fear of making mistakes keeps students from being truly creative and using their imagination. Luckily, Algoma University, the actual university that this ad is promoting, emphasizes on teachers getting to know their students and making sure everyone plays on their strengths. At first, the Colossal University website was actually quite funny. There were tabs that said “Current Sheep” and “Shepherds” along with ads on the side about clone sheep. Haha. But it was really an illusion and eventually led the site to the University’s official website. It obviously directed everyone’s attention to the school and I guess that although Colossal U, I mean, Algoma University isn’t that popular right now, it certainly captured the right kind of attention.
Anyway, I thought that this ad campaign was brilliant.

Gaming Gone Wild!

As a young girl with an older brother I've grown up with a close male influence in my life. Most of the bonding time with my brother was spent on watching him and usually his friends play video games and only being able to play occasionally. Being able to hold the controller of my friend's PS2 and actually battle these boys was a way that I bonded and interacted with them. It seemed that endless hours were spent on fighting each other virtually. As I continued to watch my brother and his friends play video games with each other the more I learned too. If I think about it now, I know a whole lot more about video games than any other girl my age today. I'm don't know if it's really a knowledge I should be proud of or advertise but it does help in conversations with boys who do play video games.

Today I do still play video games like Guitar Hero, Assassin's Creed, Time Crisis 4, Super Smash Brothers , Mario Kart and many many more. I find that games really are a way to take your mind off of stressful things and relax you... Unless you're not so skilled at aiming and are frustrated at not being able to hit your opponent!

As the end of the school year continues to draw nearer I find myself playing less that I usually do (which is not very often in the first place). But as a person with priorities, school must come first. I'm one with discipline and so I personally know when enough is enough. Although, I know of some others like my brother for example and his friends who can't seem to get enough of the virtual world. They can spend countless hours staring at a screen that honestly, it can't be healthy. It isn't. Gaming really has gone wild. Teenagers need to know that there should be a balance between video games, TV, homework, and playing outside. Not all their time can be spent on one thing and one thing only. But as these huge companies persist on creating and developing new games, the buzz on these new, exciting and better games will keep gamers on their feet to be the best. It's a vicious cycle, alright. And with increasing technology and High Definition TVs, people will always be looking for the new, the hip, the cool, and the entertaining.

Yes, it does take up a lot of time. Yes, it may turn teens into mindless zombies. Yes, it does cause flaws in our duties and work. But NOTHING beats the feeling of being the fastest, conquering nations, mastering solos, saving humankind, coming in first and beating the game.

(Unless of course, you ace an exam...that would be awesome.)
